Data Protection


For the majority of the work carried out by FSI, the applicable Data Protection regime is the Law Enforcement Directive (LED), which was transposed into Irish Law by Part 5 of the Data Protection Act 2018.

In the main, Personal Data in FSI is processed for the purposes of the prevention, investigation, detection or prosecution of criminal offences, or the execution of criminal penalties in the State, including the safeguarding against, and the prevention of threats to public security.

In some instances, such as for example, recruitment, internal HR and employment matters, the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) applies to such processing of personal data.
