DNA and Biological Analysis

DNA
The human body is composed of billions of cells of many different types including blood, skin, bone, semen and hair root cells.
All of the cells in our bodies, except for red blood cells, contain a nucleus in which identical copies of our DNA resides. Because of this the DNA from a person’s blood will be the same as the DNA found in their skin or hair roots.
Biological Analysis
Within the DNA section of FSI, there are scientists who specialise in the identification of various bodily fluids, including blood, saliva and semen. Obtaining DNA profiles from characterised bodily fluids can provide invaluable evidence in casework, particularly when the crimes are ‘crimes against the person’.
